Ridgid bikes are not known for providing riders with much comfort, especially on the moonscape-textured roads of NYC. Master fabricator Neil Fenton's answer to this was designing his own style of pogo seats based around those found on early Harleys. I lifted the following photos off Neil's site,

He also whipped up a head steady bracket for me. Note that it matches the front seat hinge - now THAT'S attention to detail.
